This week’s episode of the SFWDA Tech Net Summer Series is sponsored by none other than SFWDA and BFGoodrich Tires. In this episode our very own Mike Morrison of Morrison’s Outdoor Adventures and Eddie Schrader a well know outdoor enthusiast and retired Audio-Visual Engineer for Clemson University.
Mike will be near Asheville NC doing a complete 360 walk-around pre-trip inspection which will help to protect your vehicle from time consuming breakdowns. Eddie will be at the Gulches Off Road Park in Waterloo, SC illustrating how the Hill Descent Control of an off-road vehicle works.
As always, we will enter those that participate by commenting during the live stream to win a weekly prize. This week we will be giving away a Free Pass for a family of four to the SFWDA Dixie Run event scheduled for the first weekend of October at WindRock Off Road Park. And, if you pay close attention during the presentations you will be given a secret phrase that when entered into the comments during the live stream will give you an opportunity to get your name into the drawing for a set of 5 BF Goodrich KO2 or KM3 tires up to 37 inches. The drawing for the BFG tires will be held this fall during Dixie Run.

Are you ready?

We are all super excited that there’s just 3 weeks to go before the best trail riding of the year is finally here once again. Can you believe it? Crazy how time flies. One more reason to not miss out on a great weekend like Dixie Run!

This year along with being at AOP for the first time, we have a bunch of amazing new sponsors on board to support SFWDA for our 33rd Annual Dixie Run weekend festival!

Our schedule of events is filled with fun for the whole family. Whenever you take a break from the trails, you’ll find lots more to do. The comprehensive schedule is now published on our SFWDA.org/dixierun website so you can plan out your full weekend from beginning to end.

Speaking of trails, did you know our Ride Signups Are Now LIVE! Once you have purchased your tickets, we encourage folks to go and Register our Guided Rides before they’re all full. Guided trail rides at a Southern event are an incredible experience. We have amazing excursion rides into beautiful and interesting nearby destinations. We also have small groups departing frequently through the morning and afternoon out onto the AOP trails. Don’t worry you don’t need to have experience to join in. Basic safety equipment, and a sense of adventure is all thats required. Once they’re gone they’re gone. We only have a limited number of experienced volunteer guides to lead groups.

That’s not all. We also have a brand new food truck coming out to take care of everyone’s appetite for lunches and dinners through the weekend. But wait there’s more.....Want to go FAST, or watch others try? How about a Southern Shootout race up the mountain side and under the lights? Friday night it’s ON! There’s a line for all types of rigs, easy - extreme, so everyone’s invited to come give it a shot. Prizes will be awarded for top finishes. Speaking of prizes, oh yeah, we also have a HUGE RAFFLE Saturday that is a must with a ton of prizes to take home! Not only can you win some amazing products just for buying a raffle ticket but all proceeds go right back to our Members, and our core mission of Conservation and Education to protect and preserve our OHV trails.

There is a LOT going on at Dixie Run 33! Don’t miss out on a weekend full of fun! In case you haven’t been to AOP recently there is no better time to explore their new 150+ Acre expansion with newly added trails and a freshly included connector loop trail around the perimeter of the park. So much to see and so much to do. What are you waiting for.....

All RV slips are long gone but there is still plenty of dry / primitive camping throughout. There are also a few local hotels which do still have a few rooms if you hurry.

Book Now, and we’ll see you at Adventure Off Road Park!

It’s almost here. The ride people have asked for over and over is coming back again to The Cove. Come join SFWDA for our upcoming and totally free Meet & Ride through the majestic and mysterious “Coppingers Cove” July 13th. Membership not required. We will be accepting donations for A Soldiers Child Charity. This is sure to be a cool way to enjoy the trails during he heat of the summer! The best part is we’re leading varied difficulty level groups in and out with the assistance of local knowledgeable volunteer SFWDA members to make sure we see all the best stuff.

We will be meeting up at 8 AM Central at the Trials Training Center who also has RV slips, Cabins, and Primitive Camping options available. Reservations can be made for lodging direct through TTC.

Local and fellow SFWDA Club; Scenic City 4 WD Drive is hosting this event for us. This club is local to the Cove and know the trails very well. They will be our guides for the day to lead on the adventure.

There is no fee to ride these trails or attend the event. We are asking all attendees help us to contribute all proceeds in honor of A Soldiers Child Foundation. This great charity supports families of soldiers in times of need. Cash donations will be accepted directly at the event before we hit the trails at 9 AM Central.

When we do split up into groups we will divide into varying difficulty levels so that everyone who attends enjoys themselves and comes back to TTC safe and sound. After the day trip through the Cove we will return to the parking lot at TTC. A packed lunch is suggested and lots of water is required along with standard safety gear, and maybe a CB radio within your vehicle.

Last but not least. There will also be a Raffle with a variety of prizes from SPIDERWWEBSHADE and TREADLIGHTLY! .

SFWDA continues the fight for your trails on the DBBB! Learn more about this World Class OHV System

The Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway (DBBB) is a high clearance 4wd route comprised of improved and unimproved county and public roads over 100 miles long centered around the scenic Red River Gorge and Daniel Boone National Forest in eastern Kentucky.

Back in 2016 SFWDA started developing a strategy to allow public access to all of the DBBB trails. We have already made great strides on physical trail improvements, in addition to reclaiming trails that were illegally blocked and barricaded by residents. We also Digitally mapped this great trail, and placed maps on kiosks throughout the trail system.

The fact is we are very close to setting a new precedent on the matter with a Summary Judgment in the works now. This would be a HUGE victory for us and the OHV Community as a whole for future land access battles. It’s been a costly battle though. Our own SFWDA Grant Program has been vital to get us this far. Our current expenses on the DBBB alone in 2016 were $8,477 then in 2017 $26,006 and now in 2018 we’re already at $36,075. Our last legal bill alone was over $18,000. It’s all well worth it when we claim victory. This is why we are asking for your help. A small donation today will ensure we can finish the fight and preserve these amazing trails forever. Scroll to the bottom of this message of this link to learn more and donate now.

More about the DBBB.

* The DBBB is of moderate difficulty and open to licensed vehicles only. It is designed for entry level off-roading and providing a safe and rewarding driving experience.

* Historically, this area of Kentucky hosted the Jeep Jamboree for many years, as far back as 1969. In 2004, a travel management rule change by USFS closed off many of the routes and ended the organized events.

* Tourism was a huge part of the rural economy of the area and the loss of access equaled a drop in economic input both direct and indirect.

* Since the mid-2000's, a concerted effort between SFWDA members, five local counties, and USFS resulted in the DBBB. Some of the important routes previously utilized by the Jeep Jamboree are now open and drawing organized events and support.

* The DBBB was launched in 2016. SFWDA supported the development of a digital map of the DBBB which allows users to navigate these beautiful 4wd roads with smart phone technology. The DBBB Facebook page has over 3200 followers and some posts have reached 10k.

* The roads are part of the historical county transportation systems which make the right-of-ways county property and allows access to the public.

* A few recent challenges to the public access of these roads have arisen due to the increased traffic of the DBBB. None have resulted in a loss of access due to support from the counties and SFWDA's grant program, which has provided generous financial support in the form of legal fees and road maintaining resources.

* There are 50-100+ miles of expansion of the DBBB planned to meet the growing need of the OHV community for entry level experience.

* The DBBB is within 5 hours drive of the northeast megalopolis which represents 17% of the US population or roughly 50 million Americans. It is also convenient to southern states as well.

* Future financial support of the DBBB is critical to sustaining and growing these world class OHV opportunities. We have recently filed for a Summary Judgement which along with our ongoing efforts have become a considerable investment.

We are seeking additional financial resources to complete our battle for access via public roads to the DBBB. If you would please consider a donation today to help support and to preserve trail access for future generations.
